Bildungsurlaub (BU), which translates to Educational Leave is a program run by the German Government, allowing paid workers to take time off each year for full-time study. We’re proud to be able to offer our English Language courses in London, Dublin and Eastbourne as being approved institutions for BU participants.
Who can apply for Bildungsurlaub?
Employees in any German state except Sachsen and Bayern who have worked for an employer for at least 6 months (12 months in Baden-Württemberg) are eligible for 5 days of BU each year. Most states allow employees to take 10 days every 2 years, allowing for an intensive 2 week course in one trip.
Why learn English?
Being able to speak extra languages can be a huge bonus in employability, especially in international industries and companies. This is doubly true for English, which has become the international standard language for many businesses and sectors. Any industry that has a need for presentations, communications and report writing is likely to benefit from you being able to speak English.
Going abroad for Bildungsurlaub?
Studying overseas as part of your educational leave is a great opportunity to meet people from all over the world from a variety of companies and work sectors. You couldn’t ask for a better way to make potential industry contacts. It’s also a great way to vary the people you interact with and make new friends.
Why study in the UK?
When learning English, it’s best to study in an English-speaking country. This means you’ll be surrounded by opportunities to practise your English, with real world context and situations. Not only will this help you learn quickly, it will make your learning more robust and highlight the real world applications of your language use. You also get the experience of travelling to the UK and experiencing a totally different culture than your own.
Why study with Twin?
We are dedicated to the student experience. We have specifically tailored our course content to ensure students feel confident in using and understanding English as well as having an engaging travel experience. Our London and Eastbourne schools are British Council accredited and our Dublin school is accredited by Eaquals.
Our Centres:
Our London centre is located in the Royal Borough of Greenwich, a beautiful part of the UK’s capital. This school provides great access to a variety of landmarks and attractions in and around London. The school is modern, spacious and bright, and the location offers a range of first-class facilities.
Our Dublin centre is set centrally in the historic Irish capital, allowing students to study surrounded by an incredible atmosphere of history and architecture. The short distance to landmarks and tourist attractions helps visitors fit as much in on a short trip as possible.
For those interested in a more peaceful experience than one of our capital city schools, our Eastbourne school is set in a traditional English seaside town. This allows students to have a quieter rural experience, while retaining good transport links to London.
The states we have gained accreditation in are:
If you take part in the BU scheme, you’ll be able to spend 2 weeks at one of our English schools across the UK and Ireland, alternating study with visiting nearby landmarks and attractions. We have a variety of courses available based on the goals of the student, such as our Intensive English course, English Unlimited, English for Business Professionals, and Academic Year in Ireland.
It’s officially festive season!
There are three things that define Dublin: its impressive literary heritage, rich history, and a universal love for good craic.
Halloween has long been associated with indulgence: every year, supermarkets stock up on spooky editions of our favourite snacks and children go door to door in the hopes of filling up their pockets with chocolate eyeballs and candy pumpkins.
