Despite having a reputation for rainy weather, London in the summer really can be beautiful, and if you’re staying at one of Twin’s summer centres in the capital, we’d highly recommend a trip to one of London’s best parks. Relaxing in the sun in a park is fun and free, what more could you want?

We start off with one you probably haven’t heard of, Crystal Palace Park. If you were to type ‘London’s best parks’ into a search engine, this one probably wouldn’t pop up, as it’s not one of London’s famous Royal Parks or in central London, but that doesn’t mean it’s not still well worth visiting. It’s pretty unique and has something the other parks mentioned here definitely don’t have – dinosaurs. Sadly they’re not real dinosaurs, but still worth checking out, if only to see what people thought dinosaurs looked like during the Victorian era when the statues of them were built. Where else can you have a picnic in a Victorian theme park?

Next up is Greenwich Park, which has something else very unique – the Prime Meridian Line, which represents longitude 0 degrees. It’s also home to the National Maritime Museum and the Royal Observatory, Greenwich, so you could really make a day out of visiting this park; perhaps go the museum in the morning, have a picnic in the sun, and then explore the observatory in the afternoon. At the maritime museum you can get an insight into the minds of great scientists like Galileo and Isaac Newton and their inventions, and the planetarium at the observatory is amazing. The park itself is beautiful, and particularly from the observatory at the top of the hill you can see brilliant views across the River Thames.

Located in the heart of the capital, Hyde Park is probably the most famous park we’re going to mention here. As well as being a beautiful place to take a stroll or have a picnic, the park is home to the famous Speakers’ Corner, Serpentine Lake and a memorial fountain to Princess Diana. Each year the park also hosts a variety of exciting concerts, so when you’re visiting London it’s definitely worth looking into what’s on. We’d recommend hiring a boat to take out on the lake, or even have a ride on the first Solarshuttle in the UK, which is powered by the sun alone.

Finally, another place not many people have heard of. Holland Park is a relatively famous park in the Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, but hidden away within it is possibly the most beautiful garden in London, the Kyoto Garden. It’s well-known that London is a highly diverse city, and Kyoto is a wonderful example of how other countries influence the capital. The Japanese garden was designed and built in 1991 prior to London’s 1992 Japan festival, and it’s just as picturesque now as it was then. This is definitely an idyllic place for a picnic.

I hope you can see from this article that not all parks are the same, and when the weather’s nice it’s worth having as many picnics as possible in as many different parks as possible to get a true feeling of London’s best parks!
