Eastbourne is able to offer Twin students a relaxed and safe atmosphere in which to study, away from the hustle and bustle of London. An intimate town, everyone in Eastbourne is friendly, laid-back and used to being around students, so you’re sure to feel right at home, and everything you could possibly need from food to entertainment are just short walks away, and by bus you can easily reach many more local attractions.

Eastbourne has famously been described as the sunniest town in Britain, and during the summer months a stroll on the quiet, nearby beach is sure to feel just like being at a European holiday resort. You might also want to wander along the pier. Here, you have to try some English fish and chips at some point during your stay, of course, but if you don’t fancy that every day, there’s the quaint Victorian Tearooms for another true taste of Britain, or a café and bar. If you’re looking for something to do during the evenings, Atlantis, (pretty cool to have a nightclub on a pier, no?), offers an opportunity for you to relax and socialise with friends in seating areas or to take to the dance floor. It’s worth noting that for a similar experience you would end up spending twice as much in London as you would in Eastbourne. Not old enough? Atlantis often holds nights for under 18s, so it’s worth looking into what’s going on during your visit.

Also renowned for its beautiful parks and gardens, Eastbourne doesn’t disappoint when it comes to offering places to relax and read a book or enjoy a picnic. The Italian Gardens, among the most famous, are tucked away and provide a really unusual place to unwind. During the summer, you can expect a number of open-air theatre productions to take place in this tranquil, ‘secret garden’ setting. Other popular parks include Shinewater and Hampden, which both host wonderfully picturesque landscapes.

In Eastbourne you can also find one of the top 10 military museums in the UK, the Redoubt Fortress. This Napoleonic Fortress can lead you to discover 300 years of history, with collections of weapons, medals, uniforms and more. You could also find out how words like ‘balaclava’ and ‘cardigan’ became part of the English language; great if you’re studying English! Currently at Redoubt, visitors are able to gain a unique insight into the history of humans through the Eastbourne Ancestors Project. This collection of Roman and Saxon remains allow you to see what our ancestors looked like, in 2D and 3D, as well as what they ate, what they did, how they died, and much more.

If you’re visiting Eastbourne, you have to see the largest composite marina complex in the north of Europe – Sovereign Harbour. The Waterfront at Sovereign Harbour is a great way to spend some time, as there are plenty of shops, bars and restaurants to keep you entertained, as well as tours of the harbour by boat and regular new and exciting events.

Mentioned here are just a few of the things Eastbourne has to offer. You definitely also need to check out the Towner Museum, for unique, contemporary art, and Beachy Head, which is particularly interesting geographically; the chalk cliff is a dramatic sight and has been the used as the location for a number of film scenes, including the 2005 Quidditch World Cup from Harry Potter. If you’re around in the summer, Eastbourne Extreme is a two day, free sports festival which offers a spectacle of events and plenty of things to get involved in to get your blood pumping.
